Europol: Bitcoin Key Facilitator for Cybercrime


Europol which is the European Union’s law enforcement agency that wants to achieve safer Europe for the benefit of all the EU citizens, finds that Bitcoin is still the key facilitator for cybercrime.

Other currencies like Monero, Ethereum and Zcash are also advancing with high pace.

Key findings from Europol

While Bitcoin remains a key facilitator for cybercrime, other
cryptocurrencies such as Monero, Ethereum and Zcash are
also gaining popularity within the digital underground.

Eurpol also mentions: “Bitcoin is the only currency accepted on most Darknet
marketplaces and automated card shops, and is the currency
required by almost all of today’s ransomware and DDoS extortion
